Visiting Nurse Association of Central New York, Inc. Receives Donation from Hancock & Estabrook, LLP to Activate Charitable Organization

January 24, 2008

(SYRACUSE, NEW YORK) - The Visiting Nurse Association of Central New York, Inc. (VNA) is pleased to announce that they have activated their foundation, The VNA Foundation of Central New York. The foundation represents the fourth arm of their corporate system, VNA Systems, Inc., which also includes Independent Health Care Services, Inc. and affiliate agency, CCH Home Care & Palliative Services, Inc. The activation comes in part from private and corporate donations, the first of which came from Hancock & Estabrook, LLP.

The Visiting Nurse Association of Central New York, Inc. currently has the largest pediatric and maternal child home care programming in Onondaga County. Pediatric programming includes a wide range of care including instruction, supervision and treatment of chronic conditions. The maternal child health program serves pregnant and post-partum women and their newborns; the medically at risk pregnant and post-partum women and includes a Short Stay component for low risk women discharge 24 to 36 hours or less after a regular delivery. The VNA’s pediatric team has over eighty-five years of collective experience and served over five hundred patients during the last year.

In addition to promoting and supporting the development of pediatric home health services to children in Onondaga County, The VNA Foundation of Central New York also plans to foster the education and development of professional and paraprofessional home care practitioners. The goal is to ensure the availability of qualified caregivers into the future. The 501(c3) organization is currently in the process of developing fundraising initiatives that will help raise the funding necessary to help fulfill its mission.

Visiting Nurse Association of Central New York, Inc. delivers nursing services, medical social work and rehabilitation services, including physical, occupational and speech therapy to patients throughout Onondaga County. The goal of this comprehensive and focused approach is to improve the quality of each patient’s life and help them safely achieve maximum independence. It can also reduce hospital stays and prevent or delay institutionalized care. Patients include seniors, new mothers and their newborns, children, disabled workers, and persons of any age who are chronically ill, recovering from acute illness, or post-surgical and in need of wound care. The VNA Foundation of Central New York is dedicated to promoting and supporting the continuation and development of pediatric home health services to children in Onondaga County, and to foster the education and development of professional and paraprofessional home health care practitioners, in order to ensure the availability of qualified caregivers into the future. It is the newest organization to be activated as part of VNA Systems, Inc.
